Gang History: The Grove Street Families ("Families" or "GSF" for short) are a street gang in Los Santos, San Andreas, the native gang of Carl Johnson. As far as street gangs in San Andreas go, the GSF are depicted as more honorable than their rival gangs, as they are against hard drugs being sold on their turf,[1][2] despite the numerous other crimes and violent acts they take part in. The Grove Street Families are headed by Sean "Sweet" Johnson and his previous lieutenants were Lance "Ryder" Wilson and Melvin "Big Smoke" Harris. Sweet is adamantly anti-narcotic, but Smoke believes the GSF have fallen from power because of Sweet's refusal to have the gang sell drugs.[3] Their unwillingness to enter the drug trade has dragged the Grove Street Families out of prominence in the years leading up to the game's storyline. This, coupled with the deaths of OGs such as Tony, Big Devil, and Little Devil, has led to the sorry state of the GSF upon CJ's return from Liberty City. There are at least 2 other distinct set of the Families: the Temple Drive Families and the Maria Beach Families, Seville Boulevard Families joined the kings, both of which were originally one with the Grove Street Families, but split up from the GSF during the five years of Carl's absence. Earlier in the game, they are not on good terms with each other,[4] which is why the gang has weakened. Carl will occasionally make reference to Orange Grove Families; gang graffiti tags with the initials "OGF" also exist in los santos. Gang Race: Black
Gang Attire: The Ballas are seen with purple bandanas, black skullcaps, knee high socks and flip-flop sandals, khaki pants and dark blue shirts.
Gang Discription: Dangerous
Gang History: The Ballas are the Grove Street Families primary enemy and most influential gang in Los Santos, having been around since the 1970s.[1] They are involved in drug dealing, gang banging, prostitution, arms dealing, vandalism, degeneracy, but mainly, the cocaine trade. The Ballas are rivals with Grove Street Families and the Varrios Los Aztecas, and have ties with the Los Santos Vagos, the San Fierro Rifa, and the Loco Syndicate for narcotics, and the Russian Mafia for weapons. The Ballas also collaborate with CRASH. In addition, Big Smoke defects against the GSF to lead the Ballas with his lieutenant Ryder. Unlike the GSF, the Ballas have no reservations about making money by selling drugs; the spread of crack cocaine into the Grove Street community is part of their strategy to wipe the GSF out. The Ballas briefly control the streets of Los Santos alongside the Vagos after Grove Street leader Sweet Johnson is gunned down and arrested. They control the influence of the Families by using crack cocaine to turn GSF members into hopeless addicts totally dependent on them. However, following the release of Sweet from prison and the return of Carl Johnson, the Grove Street Families dominate the Ballas. The Ballas' Crack Palace is heavily demolished by Officer Frank Tenpenny, resulting in significantly reduced influence by the Ballas in Los Santos. There are four known sets of Ballas: The Front Yard Ballas, The Rollin' Heights Ballas, the Kilo Trays, and the Temple Drive Ballas. The Ballas are recognizable by their purple attire, purple being the identifying color of the gang. Business: Crack Cocaine Trade,Prostitution

Gang Colors: Turquoise Enemy Street Gang(s): San Fierro Rifa, Los Santos Vagos, Ballas Ally Street Gang(s): GSF Gang Weapons: 9mm, Micro-Smgs
Gang Race: Spanish
Gang Attire: Varrios Los Aztecas members are mostly seen wearing turquoise bandanas and sunglasses, dressed in 'cholo' style clothing Gang Discription: Dangerous
Gang History: Significantly less prominent than the Vagos, the Varrios Los Aztecas are a Mexican gang and are led by Cesar Vialpando. They have a friendship with the Grove Street Families due to Cesar dating and intending to marry Kendl Johnson, his close friendship with Carl Johnson, and due to the gangs having common enemies, but this is far from solid. Indeed, Varrios will still challenge Carl Johnson if they see him on the streets, calling out insults against the Grove Street Families gang and attacking with fists or weapons. They will attack other GSF members on sight, and vice versa. The Varrios are rivals with the Vagos and the San Fierro Rifa, and are also believed to be on bad terms with the Ballas. The Varrios are traditionally anti-narcotics, with heavy involvement in gun running and street violence, and they only have a few territories compared to other gangs, and these are clustered around the south-western areas of Eastern Los Santos. Business: Small time arms trade,Smuggling guns from Mexico

Gang Colors: Yellow Enemy Street Gang(s): VLA, GSF Ally Street Gang(s): Ballers Gang Weapons: 9mm, Micro-Smg, Ak-47 Gang Race: Spanish
Gang Attire: The Vagos are seen wearing yellow bandanas. White shirts tan shorts and pants sandels with socks or no shirt and grey pants Gang Discription: Dangerous
Gang History: The Los Santos Vagos is a Hispanic street gang based on the eastern side of Los Santos, with bases in East Los Santos, Los Flores, Las Colinas and East Beach. Known members include drug-dealer Big Poppa and Freddy. Los Santos Vagos, when translated from Spanish to English, literally means "The Lazy Saints". The Vagos are seen wearing yellow bandanas. The Los Santos Vagos had, prior to the events of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, been involved in a long running war with the Varrios Los Aztecas, another Hispanic gang in Los Santos. The Grove Street Families had also been a target for the Vagos, as the two vied for control over both East Beach and Playa del Seville. The Ballas are not known to have come into conflict with the Vagos, although they may have due to the proximity of their territories. The San Fierro Rifa, a Hispanic gang in San Fierro, are also known to have had conflict with the Vagos. The Los Santos pose a threat to protagonist Carl Johnson, and will enter gang wars with Johnson if they see him. The Vagos are first seen in the storyline during the mission Catalyst, which sees Carl and Ryder stealing weaponry and ammunition from a train, and having to kill a number of Vagos and Ballas gang members to get them. Then, during the OG Loc mission, Carl and OG Loc chase Vagos gang member Freddy across parts of Los Santos before being confronted by Vagos gang members (who are all killed by Carl). Big Smoke appears to be having problems with the Vagos gang, and along with Carl, meet two Vagos drug dealers, who have Smoke's drugs. After failing to hand them to Smoke, one is injured and one is killed by Carl. Then Smoke hears from Officer Frank Tenpenny that the Vagos and San Fierro Rifa are cutting a drugs deal at Unity Station. Four Vagos gang members jump onto the train just leaving the station, and are chased and killed by Smoke and Carl. Officer Tenpenny also has issues with the Vagos, and sends Carl to burn down some Vagos homes, in the mission Burning Desire. The Vagos, after taking losses at the hands of Carl Johnson, gain the territories of the Varrios Los Aztecas, when the later gang dissolves due to their leader, Cesar Vialpando, leaving Los Santos. The territories include El Corona, Little Mexico and Unity Station. The Vagos begin to become more powerful within the city. Carl and Cesar realize that the Vagos, the Ballas and Russian Mafia are working with one another against the Grove Street Families, buying drugs and selling them in the city. The Vagos remain in the Aztecas territories until Carl and Cesar return to Los Santos, and they reclaim El Corona as Aztecas territory. The Vagos are then forced to leave Little Mexico and El Corona, and return to their north-eastern bases in the city. The Vagos, along with the Ballas, Rifa and Russian Mafia gang members all work together during the final mission (End of the Line) to try and kill Carl Johnson and protect their leader Big Smoke. The Vagos are becoming more powerful they have started smuggling drugs from Mexico. Business: Heroin Trade,Prostituiton,Marijuana Sale,Smuggling Tags/Signs: Los Santos Vagos spray painted on a wall.
